Saving Mother Earth Through Sustainable Packaging by Juno Kamodo

The very first man made climate change occurred during the industrial revolution. With the influx of revolutionary inventions during that time in history; it has also managed to quadruple the production output while minimizing human interventions. The bad thing with this trend is the fact that it emitted great amounts of carbon dioxide which literally increased the overall temperature of the earth by 2 degrees Celsius!

In the present time, we are also faced with the very same and even worse problem. In the time when everywhere around the world is experiencing climate change, people have taken an extra stride to at least delay its harmful effects for the sake of the next generations. One of the things that contributed to global warming besides carbon dioxide emissions would have to be the production of materials that aren't biodegradable.

Biodegradability simply means the capacity of a material to undergo the "normal" rate and process of decay. Normal carbon cycle will dictate a material's decaying process up to the point when it is consumed by the microorganisms in the ground. But it's another story when we are talking of synthetic materials.

Synthetic non-biodegradable materials have a huge impact when it comes to the environment. It contributes greatly to the number of trash being dumped in the different dumpsites all over the world. And instead of undergoing the normal decaying process, most of these materials could last thousands of years in one piece!

This is the main reason why companies are now developing sustainable packaging for different food and even industrial products. The trend which led to the development of non-eco friendly packages came from the strength of the non-biodegradable materials. It could endure a relatively heavier weight compared to its biodegradable counterpart. Recently, in order to give solution to such dilemma, companies have now developed sustainable packaging for products that are just as durable as the non-eco friendly packaging materials.

The good thing with this kind of trend is basically the reduction of wastes that we have. Knowing the world's condition nowadays, everybody needs to take a small step in achieving the goal of slowing the trends of global warming.

In the past, everyone either recycles or reuses the non-biodegradable packages. For example, a plastic bag turns to a toy when it is used as mold by toy companies. The problem with recycling is its cost. Once you recycle a plastic material into another form of plastic, not only does it cost great, but you are also ignoring the problem. You simply made use of a material that is present already in order to avoid developing newer plastics. Nowadays, the scientists have found a way in order to produce packaging materials that will naturally succumb to the decay process of nature for a very cheap price.

To sum everything up, as we face a new challenge in our present time regarding the world's overall climate and condition; companies producing sustainable packaging for different materials will come a long way especially in today's situation where every help counts. Considering the perks of using a sustainable packaging compared to that of a non-biodegradable material; we might be one step closer in saving our Mother Earth.
